The Words of Westboro Baptist Church
A transcription of the words of Fred Phelps in his video commentary of the Virginia Tech Massacre.

“Last week, our heavenly Father sent us another encouraging token for good in answer to our daily prayers. Psalm 86:17 - ‘Show me a token for good, that they which hate me may see it and be ashamed: because thou, Lord, hast holpen me, helped me, and comfort[ed] me.’ The Lord sent a world-class whopper of a massacre to Virginia Tech, killing 33, drawing headlines like ‘Shocked,’ ‘Horrified,’ ‘The Worst Massacre in U.S. History.’ Well, we wish you were 33,000 killed, but we’re thankful to our Father for 33. God is punishing America for the way they have persecuted us at Westboro Baptist Church. And worse, and more of it, is coming, and this evil sodomite nation is doomed. ‘“Vengeance is mine; I will repay,” seth the lord.’ Romans 12:19. President Bush and thousands of others, politicians and preachers, are making speeches and lying in their teeth all agreeing that they can’t explain such tragedies, but they’re just certain a loving God had nothing to do with the massacre. They say evil did it, like Star Wars, some evil force. Bush said in a big memorial service the other day, ‘We’ve come together to mourn and grieve and try and make some kind of sense out of this senseless tragedy that makes no sense.’ Well, wrong, President Bush. It makes perfect sense to those who believe the bible. They died for America’s sins and persecuting Westboro Baptist Church. For 16 years, America has conducted a crusade of terror against Westboro Baptist Church, bombing and vandalizing our property, raiding our church with lying search warrants, seizing and destroying our goods, assaulting and battering us, putting our people in the hospital, slandering, threatening us with death, suing us, prosecuting us, arresting and jailing us, blaspheming, mocking, and scoffing at our message from God. Vilifying us, demonizing and marginalizing us, a technique that they hoped would silence all those we’re trying to preach, saying that we’re just a bunch of kooks. ‘God is not mocked.’ Galatians 6:7. God has irreversibly cursed America, and that curse explains the Virginia Tech massacre. The righteousness of God demands that America be severely punished for persecuting Westboro Baptist Church. that’s the explanation for Virginia Tech massacre. seeing it as a righteous thing—here’s the verse—‘seeing it as a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you.’ 2 Thessalonians 1:6. Only brute beast blindness explains America’s continuing conduct of persecuting Westboro Baptist Church. By refusing to heed the message of Westboro Baptist Church, that God hates fags, and by continuing to persecute Westboro Baptist Church, America is pouring gasoline on the raging fires of God’s wrath. America may expect many more dead and maimed bodies from Iraq, many more Katrinas and other ‘natural’ disasters, and many more Virginia Tech massacres. Westboro Baptist Church rejoices, not grieves, when we see God’s vengeance. Psalm 58:10 - ‘These earth-dwellers have no sense of the signs of the times to know what Israel ought to do.’ 1 Chronicles 12:32 - ‘None but David’s mighty men that’s God’s elect have some supernatural understanding of the times to know what Israel ought to do.’ ‘These pharisees and hypocrites are completely unable to discern the signs of the times.’ Matthew 16:3. Only God’s elect have such ability. And these filthy dreamers, as Jude calls them in Jude 8, ‘never have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.’ Hebrews 5:14 - God calls them natural brute beasts, speaking evil of the things they understand not. 2 Peter 2:12. Of course they cannot interpret rightly Iraq, or Katrina, or Virginia Tech massacre. Well, it’s payback time, and God has said He will repay America to her face for hating Him. Duteronomy 7:10 - ‘Know therefore, that the Lord thy God, He is God, the faithful God, which are payeth them’—America—‘that hate Him to their face. To destroy them’—America—‘He will not be slack to Him’—that is, to America—‘that hateth Him. He will repay him’—America—‘to his face.’ Deuteronomy 7:9 and 10. Think, America. Think Iraq. Think Katrina. and Think Virginia Tech massacre, because worse and more is on the way. Amen.

As a hokie—let alone, a human being—I cannot help but feel enraged, disgusted, repulsed… and pity. Pity for this fool’s ignorance, and his most certainly inevitable destiny in hell, should there be one. I myself am not much of a religious person, but it is people like him that give religion a bad name, corrupting the institution.
Members of the Westboro Baptist Church will be here at Virginia Tech on Friday, April 9, 2010 to rally. Everybody is encouraged to protest their presence. No violence or vulgarity or hatred; we don’t want to sink to their level. But we will stand strong, for we are Hokies.
